Accessibility statement

Insurance is something everyone needs. A website that some people cannot use is a website that is not doing its job.

Applies to this website. Date of publication: to be inserted at launch.

Our commitment

Keith Insurance wants everyone to be able to read about coverage, understand it, and reach us. That includes people who use screen readers, magnification, speech input or keyboard-only navigation, and people who need reduced motion or higher contrast.

Accessibility is treated here as part of building the site, not as a plugin bolted on afterwards.

The standard we are working to

This website is built to target the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium.

We deliberately do not claim to be certified, audited or fully conformant. No independent third-party audit has been carried out on this site. What we can say honestly is that WCAG 2.1 AA is the standard we designed and built against, that we test against it, and that we fix what we find.

What we have done

  • Colour contrast. Every text and background combination was calculated, not eyeballed. Body text meets or exceeds a 4.5:1 contrast ratio, and large text, icons and interface components meet or exceed 3:1, in both the light and the dark colour scheme.
  • Keyboard operation. Every link, button, menu and form control can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone. Menus and panels close with the Escape key and return focus to the control that opened them.
  • Nothing hidden in the tab order. Collapsed panels, including every carrier panel on our Customers page, are removed from the keyboard tab order and from assistive technology while they are closed, rather than being merely invisible.
  • Visible focus. A high-contrast focus ring is shown on whatever element the keyboard is on. It is never removed.
  • Skip link. A “Skip to main content” link is the first thing in the tab order on every page.
  • Structure. Every page uses proper landmarks, exactly one first-level heading, and headings in order with no skipped levels.
  • Images. Every photograph carries a meaningful text description. Illustrations that are purely decorative are hidden from assistive technology so they do not add noise.
  • No forms to get stuck in. This website asks you for nothing. There is no contact form, no quote request and no login, so there is no field to mislabel and no error message to miss. The one input on the site, the carrier filter on our Customers page, has a permanently visible label and announces how many carriers are left.
  • Colour is never the only signal. Anything indicated by colour is also indicated by text, an icon shape, or a change in weight.
  • Motion. Animation is subtle, and it is switched off entirely when your device is set to reduce motion.
  • Zoom and small screens. The site is usable at 320 pixels wide and at 200 percent zoom without horizontal scrolling or losing content.
  • Touch targets. Interactive controls are at least 44 by 44 pixels.
  • Dark mode. If your device is set to a dark colour scheme, the site follows it, and every colour pair was re-checked for contrast in that mode too.
  • Zoom is never blocked. Pinch-to-zoom works on every page.

Known limitations and honest caveats

  • There is no way to write to us through this website. That is deliberate, for liability reasons, but it does mean the routes to us are the telephone, Florida Relay on 711, the fax and the post. If none of those works for you, please tell us and we will find one that does.
  • The carrier links on our Customers page lead to other companies’ websites. We cannot guarantee the accessibility of a system we do not control.
  • Any document we publish in future, a PDF policy summary for example, needs to be checked for accessibility before it goes up. Older documents supplied by third parties may not meet the same standard.
  • Accessibility is not a state you reach once. Content changes, browsers change, and new issues appear. We treat reported problems as bugs to be fixed.

Third-party content

Parts of an insurance business rely on systems we do not control: carrier payment portals, claims filing tools, mapping services. We cannot guarantee the accessibility of a third party’s system. What we can do, and will do, is complete anything like that with you directly. Ask, and a member of staff will do it with you over the phone or in the office.

Reporting a problem, and what happens next

If any part of this website is difficult or impossible for you to use, please tell us. You do not need to know why it is happening or use any technical language. “I cannot get past the menu with my keyboard” is a perfect report.

  • By telephone: 239-482-3040
  • Through Florida Relay: dial 711 and ask for 239‑482‑3040
  • By fax: 239-482-8366
  • In person: 8931 Conference Dr, Suite 4, Fort Myers, FL 33919

It helps if you can tell us the page address, what you were trying to do, and what device, browser or assistive technology you were using. Please report it even if you cannot.

Our commitment to you: we will acknowledge every accessibility report we receive and tell you what we intend to do about it. Where a fix is straightforward we will make it. Where it will take longer, we will tell you that honestly and offer you another way to get what you needed in the meantime. Nobody should have to wait for a website to be fixed in order to get insurance advice.

Getting help another way

Everything on this website is also available from a person. If reading it here is not working for you, call the office and we will go through it with you, read a policy aloud, post you a printed copy, or arrange for you to come in. That is how this agency has worked since 1982.

Get in touch

Something on this site not working for you? Tell us.

A phone call reaches a person in the Fort Myers office, and we would genuinely rather hear about a problem than not.
