Our story

Choice and flexibility, from the beginning

After 25 years as a captive agent, that is, an agent who sells insurance from just one company, Terry Keith launched Keith Insurance to provide Lee County residents with the choice and flexibility that only an independent agent can provide. With Keith Insurance, you aren’t limited to coverage from one carrier; we have access to more than 30 different companies, so we can shop around to find the coverage you need at the price you want.

We offer auto insurance, home insurance, commercial insurance, business insurance, boat insurance, recreational vehicle insurance, and life insurance. We don’t just help you protect your future, but we can help you plan for it, too.

Terry Keith

The founder of Keith Insurance, Terry loves to tell the story about how he started his business with just a sport coat and a 50-cent pen. His insurance journey began just a few years after he graduated from Miami of Ohio with a degree in business management: it was then he moved to Fort Myers and opened a Nationwide Insurance agency.

Today, he puts his vast amount of industry knowledge to use as an independent agent, serving the same area, and even some of the same customers, as he has since he opened Keith Insurance nearly 40 years ago.

Ian Keith

Ian was born and raised in Fort Myers, and grew up in the insurance industry, with his father as a role model. After graduating from Florida State University with his degree in insurance and risk management in 2009, Ian joined his father’s agency, and now manages the day-to-day operations of the agency.

Ian holds a Florida 220 License (Property & Casualty), a 215 License (Life, Health, & Variable Annuities), and obtained his CLCS designation in 2017. He also holds out of state licenses in North Carolina, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio, South Carolina, and Delaware.

Service to the community

Ian’s dedication to service extends far beyond insurance. Ian is a proud and active member of The Rotary Club of Fort Myers, and is the youngest president in the club’s 100-year history.

Ian has earned a wealth of honors for his professional and community work, including the Safeco Insurance Make More Happen Award (2015 and 2019); the Hartford Volunteerism Award (2018); Southwest Florida’s 40 Under 40 Award (2019); the Rotary Service Above Self Award (2011–2012); Rotarian of the Year (2018); and many more.

    Terry Keith launches Keith Insurance in Fort Myers, after 25 years as a captive agent, with a 50-cent Bic pen, a sport coat, and a dream.

  2. 2009

    Ian Keith graduates from Florida State University with a degree in insurance and risk management, and joins his father’s agency.

  3. 2017

    Ian earns the Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist (CLCS) designation.

  4. Today

    Ian manages the day-to-day operations of the agency. You’ll still see Terry around the office, too.

Three words, and what they mean in practice

Independence

No single carrier owns our recommendation. We shop more than thirty companies at your first quote and again when the market moves, because the right answer two years ago is often not the right answer now.

Integrity

We explain what a policy does not cover as carefully as what it does. If your existing coverage is better than anything we can offer, we will tell you to keep it.

Trust

We live here. When a storm comes through Lee County it comes through our houses too. The people you call the morning after are the same people who sold you the policy.
